Denver Public Schools offer a wide variety of school choices, from traditional boundary (also called “home” or “neighborhood”) schools to magnet and charter schools. The DPS Office of Choice and Enrollment Services (OCES) coordinates all of the activities associated with getting a student matched with a school.

Registration

School registration dates for the 2017-2018 school year are on-going:

**If you missed our registration you’re not too late. Come to Fairview between 8:30am and 3:30pm Monday through Friday to get your child registered.

All new and returning students must register for school. Please allow 20- to 30-minutes for registration.

If you are a new student enrolling at Fairview (including ECE students entering Kindergarten this year), please be sure to bring the following documents to register:

  1. Original or copy of child’s birth certificate
  2. Child’s current immunization record
  3. Proof of your address – utility bill, copy of lease, etc.
  4. If applying for tuition assistance for ECE or full-day kindergarten, one full month of consecutive pay stubs or proof of receipt of public assistance (e.g., TANF, food stamps, Medicaid, etc.)
  5. If transferring from another school after kindergarten, your child’s academic records from their current school.

How large and how many classes are there?

ECE has a maximum of 18 students per class with two adults in the classroom.

In kinder-fifth grade classes, class size ranges from 18 to 30. Once class size reaches a designated threshold, para-professional support is provided. After a voter approved bond measure,

Fairview is not my neighborhood school. How do I choice in? On a space-available basis, a limited number of non-resident spaces for the next school year are awarded through the DPS choice lottery. First round applications are usually due in January, with notification of placement by March. Second round of applications usually begins in March and continues through the end of August. Some grades may already have a waiting list of choice applicants starting in the first round. Please contact the school for current information. Completed applications must be returned in person to a DPS school. Applications received by mail, fax or email are not valid and will not be considered. For all questions related to DPS choice process and policies, please review the DPS choice website.

What about special education? If you have questions regarding Brown’s special education programs, please call the school’s front office at 720-424-7540. You will be referred to the person who can best answer your questions.
