Alyson Raabe
5th Grade Math Teacher

What do you enjoy doing in your free time and on weekends?

I enjoy reading, being outdoors (backpacking, camping, skiing, waterskiing), and baking. I also love spending time with my husband and our husky!

What is your favorite childhood book and why?

My favorite childhood book was Stellaluna. I loved that Stellaluna was raised to act like a bird, even though she was a bat… and that she realizes at the end that she fits in more than she realized.

What is your secret talent?

I was a ballerina from the age of 3 through college. I was in the Nutcracker for 13 years in a row and was many different roles throughout the years. I loved every part of ballet and miss being a ballerina, although my feet are better off not being in pointe shoes anymore!

Who was your favorite teacher in elementary school and why?

Mr. Quigley was my 5th grade teacher and was my favorite teacher in elementary school. He pushed all of us to be the best version of ourselves, and was there to offer support during some difficult years of growing up. He was silly, great at reading read-alouds to our class, and was passionate about teaching us.

Why are you proud to teach at Fairview?

I am proud to teach at Fairview because I love teaching such a diverse and interesting group of students. I also love learning from our families who are from all over the world.

Fun fact:

I’m from Connecticut and am a huge Boston Bruins fan. Both of my brothers grew up playing hockey, and the Bruins are the only professional sports team I follow. I also love traveling, and have taught in Kuwait, Costa Rica, Connecticut, and now Denver!
